Each year we host this event, we continue to talk about the growth and value it brings to Rochester. This fall’s season-ending state championship is for boys’ and girls’ teams in 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U divisions. In 2006, when Rochester was first awarded this event, it brought in 569 room nights. Now in 2018, this year’s Fall State Soccer is projected to bring over 850 rooms and an estimated economic impact of $503,064.
As this event continues to grow, so do the field demands. In recent years we reached a stand still on growth, simply because we did not have additional fields to use. When we first hosted this event we ran 109 games; this year we will have around 190 games over two days, October 13 - 14.
In recent years we had to utilize multiple sites around town to meet our facility needs. Last year’s venue list included Fuad Mansour Soccer Complex, RCTC Practice Fields, Watson Sports Complex, John Withers Sports Complex and Mayo High School. Now for the first time ever, we are excited to announce the addition of the Kepp Fields to our tournament lineup.
Now, most may ask, “What are the Kepp Fields?” And this is a great question! The Kepp Fields are off of 20th Street SE, tucked behind the McQuillan Softball Complex parking lot. These fields have been developed by Rochester Park and Rec and the Euro Football Club. With the addition of these fields, we are now able to host five 11v11 and two 9v9 fields at one site. Having the Kepp Fields will allow us to eliminate the need for using Watson Sports Complex, John Withers Sports Complex and Mayo High School.
Being able to reduce the number of sites we run at this event is very beneficial for two reasons. First, this now allows Rochester Youth Soccer Association to continue their league schedule at these sites without having to work around our event. Secondly, to be able to provide MYSA the same number of fields at just three sites compared to five is a huge benefit to this event and a change that was needed.
Now we can say, as this event continues to grow, so does Rochester! Rochester Sports is grateful for this continued partnership with MYSA and to be hosting this prestigious event for the twelfth year. If you are looking for something to do this weekend, make sure to stop out, see the new Kepp fields and enjoy a nice fall day watching some soccer.
